"We use the intranet for internal communication, at the head office, in the 18 legally independent regional clubs and as a mobile web application for the road patrol drivers. In addition, two large areas with work instructions have their own web presences. Thanks to this complex structure, we have in fact created 23 websites, all of which access a defined basic structure but have individual requirements and a partially differing structure. The simplicity of operation means that more departments and editors can work with the system, which eases the workload for internal communication."

Customer
ADAC e.V. (Allgemeine Deutsche Automobil-Club e. V.) is the largest automobile association in Europe with 21 million members and 8.500 employees. Its fields of activity include roadside assistance, road safety, tourism, technology, law and new developments in mobility. ADAC SE comprises 37 subsidiaries and associated companies, including ADAC Versicherung-AG, ADAC Autovermietung GmbH and ADAC Service GmbH. The ADAC Foundation is involved in research and educational measures to avoid accidents, accident prevention, road safety and mobility research. A particular focus of support is life-saving rescue, which is realised by ADAC Luftrettung gGmbH.
Goal / Context
ADAC aims to use a powerful intranet to promote collaboration, communication and social interaction among employees. It includes a news blog to provide up-to-date information, a digital asset management system to manage digital resources and an effective knowledge management system to centralise the collection and dissemination of knowledge. Mobile use of the intranet is particularly important, especially for employees in the roadside assistance department, so that they always have access to relevant information when they are on the move. This shared intranet serves the 8,500 employees at the head office and the subsidiaries as a central platform for their daily work.
Implementation
The implementation was realised through several measures. These include new home page messages every day, which are displayed for specific target groups, as well as the provision of information and communication on current topics. The intranet serves as a single source for work materials such as work instructions, company agreements and manuals. Ad hoc messages are distributed via a ticker. In addition, employee involvement is encouraged through surveys, quizzes and an event calendar. And much more.
Result
The results of the project are impressive: User productivity and efficiency have been significantly increased and a central point of contact for editors has been created. Internal communication has improved and usability for editors is now much better. Social features promote open communication between employees and with the company. In addition, mobile use of the intranet, even on private devices, enables flexible access to important information and functions.
